Remember that our Holiday concert is tomorrow! The music teachers ask that your child not wear sweatshirts, athletic pants or pajamas and highly suggest you to dress up for the occasion! :) 

Measurement

In math this week, the third graders started learning about measuring fluids. We learned all about the "Kingdom of Gallon." This kingdom will help us understand that there are 2 cups in each pint, 2 pints in each quart, and 4 quarts in every gallon. Check out the video below to see what we mean:

Books make great gifts! If you would like me to put your books in stapled brown paper grocery bags when they arrive or place them in the office for pick-up, please let me know ahead of time. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! :) 

Let it Snow!

Winter is here and so is the snow! 

Please remember to help your child come to school prepared for outdoor recess each day by packing waterproof boots, snow pants, a winter coat, gloves and a hat. I highly suggest you label each of these items in BOLD dark letters. Black snow pants are among the most popular... and in my experience, the most common item to get mixed up or lost! :)

Consumers and Producers Classroom Jobs

We have officially started our classroom "jobs" this week! Just like the jobs that your child will have at home, they will also have a job in our classroom. Last week, they "applied" for their job by filling out an application. After reading about all of the options for jobs, each student wrote down their top 3 choices. They needed to list previous job experience (chores around the house or in the classroom), write about why they wanted the jobs they were applying for and even have friends write references for them. We talked about how it is important to write  neatly on applications and we discussed good ideas for why they want a job. They did a great job and each student received a job that was on their top 3 list! Each day that they complete their job, they will get their "time card" stamped. At the end of week, they will receive a "pay check" for completing their at school and at home jobs. This check will be used to shop at our store of products at the end of the unit. 

Holiday Spirit!

We're getting into the holiday spirit in room 204! Last week, the 3rd graders got to decorate our classroom tree. Doesn't it look fantastic? :)

Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally

In math, the third graders are busy learning about the Order of Operations. We learned a helpful little trick that we call, "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally." Check out the poster below for details and be sure to quiz your third grader on it at home tonight! :)

Consumers and Producers Unit Project Remidner

Last week, a letter was sent home about a project we will be doing very soon that goes with our Consumers and Producers unit for Social Studies. In order to participate in this project, students will need to bring in a "product" no later than Tuesday, December 13th. Here is a copy of the original letter that we sent home. Teacher Desk Take-Over!

After saving up (well over) 250 of his Dojo Points... David finally stole my desk for a day! He got to bring in items from home to decorate "his space," sit at my chair all day, picked out a cool pencil and got his name on his desk for the day. He sure did look pretty cool sitting there all day! It was a well deserved reward for excellent behavior and responsibility! 

Way to go, David!

Thankful Turkeys.... on the Green Screen!

Today, the third graders has a short day. We used some of that time to read about the first thanksgiving and answer questions. We also made turkeys and wrote about all of the many things we are thankful for. When they were completed, the kiddos used their technology skills to upload their thankful turkeys onto a green screen backdrop. They turned out amazing!

PJ Day Tomorrow!

Tuesday, November 22nd: Comfy Day! The 3rd Graders in our class filled their compliment jar and won a reward! They chose a "comfy day." Please allow your child to wear his or her pajamas to school. (Remember to provide additional layers for recess depending on the weather.) Students can also bring in board games to share. 

7th Grade Books on Cells

Last week, we had the opportunity to read and review books that 7th grade science students from Bay View put together about Cells. The third graders had a blast reading their hard work and sharing their thoughts about the books on the review sheets. Thank you, Bay View students! 

Thank You, Mr. Perra!

Last Wednesday, Mr. Perra, a Suamico 3rd Grade parent and local police officer, came in to talk to the entire third grade about his job protecting our community. This tied in perfectly as a way to wrap up our citizenship unit!  We sure did learn a lot and appreciated him taking the time to come in and talk with us!

Saturday, December 3rd at 1:00 pm: "Christmas in Toyland" The 48th edition of the Howard-Suamico Christmas Parade (Parade will route from Bay View Middle School down Cardinal Lane to Glendale Ave, then east to Harwood to Woodale Ave and finish back at Bay View Middle School.)

Tech Day

Today was our Third Grade Tech Day! The kiddos had so much fun learning about five different technology tools. Throughout the day, they rotated between learning about Dash & Dot with me, Stick Bots with Mr. Welnetz, Stick Around with Mrs. White, Explain Everything with Mr. Jiskra and Book Creator with Mrs. Arndt. 

After 2nd recess, the third graders all met in the library to show off what they learned with the tool of their choice. I was only able to get pictures of Dash and Dot because that is the station I was holding in our classroom. Enjoy!
