Valentine's Celebration

We had a great time at our Valentine's Celebration! A big thank you goes out to Lilly's mom for, once again, planning and bringing in a fantastic craft! The 2nd graders did a wonderful job with their felt roses. Also, thank you to all the parents, aunts and grandparents who came in to volunteer and/or brought in snacks, napkins, plates and/or juice! We appreciated it!

Valentine Exchange

One of my favorite times of the school year is always the Valentine exchange. I love watching the kiddos pass out their sweet notes and seeing their faces when they read the ones they receive. :)

Happy 100 Days of School!

Happy 100 Days of School!
We are celebrating today by dressing like we're 100 years old and doing all things related to 100. The 2nd graders got to make "100" glasses when they came in and had math with a focus on the number 100 (how many ways can they make 100 by rolling dice, what different ways can they create 100 with tallies, money, tens and ones, etc.).

This afternoon, we will write about what life will be like when we are 100, if we had 100 dollars, and more. It's a great day!

We had our friend from next door come and take these pictures. They are all so different! Plus, Mr. Pagel even got in on the fun!  So many different funny faces. Enjoy them all!

Fancy Day!

The 2nd Graders filled their compliment jar! As a reward, they chose to have a "Fancy" day! They were invited to dress "fancy" all day. We ate lunch in the classroom (with our pinkies out) and read Fancy Nancy books throughout the day. How fun!

Sometimes you have to be a little silly after a day of fanciness. ;)

Letters to and from the Wisconsin DNR

Last week, these two nature loving boys chose to write a letter to the DNR during their Daily 5 writing time. We sent it out and yesterday... they heard back! It was so cool! They each got a letter with answers to their questions, a pamphlet on fish and various fish cards. We are so happy for them and really appreciate the Wisconsin DNR taking the time to do this! It sure did make their day! As a bonus...we now have a classroom full of 2nd graders eager to write letters to people. What a great inspiration for writing!

Teacher Desk Take-Over

Recently, the 2nd graders have been after my desk! These two girls each saved up 250 of their dojo points to buy my desk for the day. They were able to bring in things from home to decorate "their space." They sure did look cute sitting there! Well deserved, you two!
This girly saved up enough points to not only buy my desk, but also buy "no shoes" for the day so she could really kick back and relax. ;)

Valentine Boxes

Next week is Valentine’s Day! We are getting very excited. To help us celebrate, please have your child bring in tissue boxes and/or cereal boxes. We will be using them to create our Valentine mail boxes in class. If you have extra boxes, we would appreciate you sending them in as well. We will use them for any kiddos who might forget to bring one in. We will be making our boxes next Tuesday, February 13th.

Thanks in advance! As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

We sure do have a lot to look forward to in our classroom! Here are a few reminders:

Think sweaters, tucked in checkered shirts, glasses, loafers, rollers in your hair... the possibilities are endless! Check out Pinterest or other sites for tips if you need help. Valentines Writing Craftivities!

It's February! We are excited...and happy to make writing projects and craftivities about kindness. Yesterday, the kiddos each made a toad out of heart shapes and then were assigned a friend to write about what makes them "toad"ally awesome! They did great! Check out just a few examples. The rest can be found hanging proudly in our 2nd grade hallway!

Last week, the 2nd graders also made "Be Kind" mobiles! They wrote about all kinds of different ways they can show kindness both at home and at school. They also wrote about different times that people showed kindness to them. They turned out amazing!

All of these kindness activities not only tie in perfectly to Valentine's Day, but they also relate back to our (highly teacher-edited) read aloud book Wonder. If your child hasn't done so already, ask them about this book. It has such an amazing moral to it and the kiddos have been loving it!

Jump Rope for Heart

The 2nd Graders did awesome at Jump Rope for Heart last week! We appreciate Mr. Murphy for organizing such a great event and all of the parents who were able to help out and volunteer! Also, thank you to all of the families that helped support this program at home. It's a great cause!!
