Lunch with the Principal

Mr. Welnetz e-mailed me these two pictures this week. Four lucky kiddos got to eat lunch with him after cashing in 100 dojo points. Sure looks like they had a blast! Thanks for spending time with us, Mr. Welnetz!

Guest Speaker!

Last week, we teamed up with Mrs. White and Mrs. Arndt's classes to hear from a third grade dad talk with us about his job as a chiropractor and a physical therapist. We learned more about our bones and muscles. Thanks so much for coming in, Mr. P.!

Indoor Recess Shenanigans

We have had our fair share of indoor recesses this month! The kiddos have kept themselves busy. Check out this cook jenga tower they made! As you could probably predict, it fell just seconds after this picture was taken.

Happy Birthday!

Happy 9th Birthday to this sweet third grade boy! We sure did have fun celebrating you and enjoyed your yummy cupcakes! We hope you had a fantastic day! :)

3rd Grade Updates and Reminders

We sure have been busy in 3rd grade lately!
Here are a few updates:

*The students took their MAPS test for reading on Thursday and their MAPS test for Math on Friday. That's a lot of time spent testing! Be sure to give your child a pat on the back tonight for all of their hard work.

*We started our "Bones and Muscles" unit for Science last week. The third graders are enjoying this unit so far! Next week, we will have a guest speaker come to talk with our entire grade about the content and we will also start our breakout sessions. All of the students in 3rd grade will be broken into 3 groups and rotate between myself, Mrs. Arndt and Mrs. White. They will spend two days with each teacher doing different hands on experiments.

*In math, the third graders are diving deeper into telling time and learning about elapsed time. This is a tricky concept for many of the students. You can work with your child at home by asking them questions like the following:

*In writing, the 3rd graders took a break from working on their nonfiction books to write New Year's Resolutions. They did PHENOMENAL!! I was SO proud of how hard they worked to write not only goals for themselves, but also action steps that they would take to reach their goals. Be sure to ask your child about his or her goal at home and what their action steps are. Here are a few examples of their writing:

*In reading, the third graders have learned about nonfiction text features. Be sure to quiz your child at home about the following terms:
-Glossary
-Index
-Table of Contents
-Title
-Caption
-Heading
-Subtitle
-Map
-Diagram
-Label
-Timeline
-Title Page

A BIG thank you goes out to our Room Moms for planning the party and so many families that contributed with goodie bags, games, prizes, food, drinks, plates, napkins and their time to volunteer!

Younger siblings are always welcome at our classroom celebrations.
Especially when they are as cute as this!!! ;)
