We sure have been busy in 3rd grade lately!
Here are a few updates:
*The students took their MAPS test for reading on Thursday and their MAPS test for Math on Friday. That's a lot of time spent testing! Be sure to give your child a pat on the back tonight for all of their hard work.
*We started our "Bones and Muscles" unit for Science last week. The third graders are enjoying this unit so far! Next week, we will have a guest speaker come to talk with our entire grade about the content and we will also start our breakout sessions. All of the students in 3rd grade will be broken into 3 groups and rotate between myself, Mrs. Arndt and Mrs. White. They will spend two days with each teacher doing different hands on experiments.
*In math, the third graders are diving deeper into telling time and learning about elapsed time. This is a tricky concept for many of the students. You can work with your child at home by asking them questions like the following:
*In writing, the 3rd graders took a break from working on their nonfiction books to write New Year's Resolutions. They did PHENOMENAL!! I was SO proud of how hard they worked to write not only goals for themselves, but also action steps that they would take to reach their goals. Be sure to ask your child about his or her goal at home and what their action steps are. Here are a few examples of their writing:

*Our January Scholastic book order from are due back next Wednesday, January 18th.
*The 2nd Quarter ends next Thursday, January 19th.
*Our school's "Read-a-thon" will take place next Thursday, January 19th from 3:45-6:00pm.
*There is NO SCHOOL next Friday, January 20th.
