Shhh... Secret Writing Project!

Shhh!
We have been working on a secret surprise writing project for our friend, Miss Junion
This weekend, she is getting married! We are so excited for her! To help prepare her for married life, the third graders put together a book of "marriage advi  ce." As you can imagine, it is pretty adorable. We plan on giving Miss Junion the completed book later this week. Here is a sneak peak.

Congratulations, Student Council Representatives!

We are SO proud of everyone that ran for Student Council! After voting, the results are:
David & Cyrissa!

Congratulations! We are proud of you and excited to have you represent our class this school year!

Remember that we are proud of all of the students that ran!

Student Council Elections

We are SOOO proud of all of the kiddos in our third grade classroom that ran for Student Council today. They all gave spectacular speeches and are truly role models for giving it their all. I loved that each speech was unique and different, yet each student promised to be a great leader in their own way.

Math Terms

The third graders have officially started our math curriculum this week! They were broken into mixed groups with either myself, Mrs. White or Mrs. Arnt. They are doing great so far! This week, we are diving into multiplication. Be sure to ask your third grader to tell you what the following terms mean at home! :)

Lunch Bunch Group

Last Friday, we practiced "shopping" with our Dojo points (Points Parents will start next month). These kiddos spent 50 of their points to have lunch with me and a friend in the classroom. We had a blast!

Happy Birthday!

We celebrated this third grade boy's 9th birthday today! We sang to him and also got to enjoy yummy fruit kabobs! Thanks, kiddo! We hope you had a fantastic birthday! :)

Happy Birthday!

This 3rd grade boy turned 9 over the weekend! We celebrated with him in class on Friday and got to enjoy his yummy cookies as a treat! Thanks, bud! Hope you had a great birthday!

Last Call for "Points Parents"

About two weeks ago, I posted on our blog asking for "points parents." We have had a couple of parents interested in helping out. Before we create the schedule for the points parents, I want to offer it up to everyone else one more time. We are flexible in terms of how often you would like to come in, and when. Send me an e-mail before Wednesday, September 28th if you'd like to help us out! :)

Here is the original post:
We have exciting news to share! This year, we will be using "Dojos" for classroom behavior. ClassDojo is a website that I use to reward "points" for all kinds of positive behaviors that take place in our classroom. Possible ways of earning points include participating, staying on task, being a good friend, cooperating with a group, etc. Students can also lose Dojo points for unexpected behaviors. Things that might cause a student to lose a point include being off task, not following directions, being a bad friend, etc.

The third graders have been busy earning lots of Dojo points already this year! With their points, they will have a chance to "shop" with their points.  They can "buy" various rewards including lunch with Mrs. Beaudry and a friend, bringing a stuffed animal to school, reading to the class at the end of the day, sitting in a "hot seat" for the day, no shoes for the day (in our classroom only), or even teacher desk take-over! The kiddos are really excited about it. In order to make this happen, we need some help. We are looking for parents that would be willing to volunteer to come in and be our "Points Parents." Points Parents will come into our classroom 2-4 times each month and take each student individually to shop for rewards with their points. It would take approximately an hour each time. Ideally, we would love to have this take place in the afternoons during our literacy block. If you are interested in helping out, please let me know as soon as you can! :)

Thanks!

Read to Someone

The third graders launched "Read to Someone" today! They did a great job with it. Be sure to ask your child what the expectations are for this daily at home tonight. :)

Map Skills

The third graders are having a blast with their first social studies unit of the school year... Map Skills!  In this unit, we will work on the following learning targets:

* Students will understand a variety of maps and use cardinal directions, map grids and longitude/latitude.

*Students will know the approximate location of major continents and bodies of water (oceans).

*Students will know the location of countries (USA, Canada and Mexico) and important cities (Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Green Bay, Milwaukee and Madison).

The kiddos got to explore an atlas with a partner last week. They are already picking up on so many skills! :)

Next Week Sneak Peek

Happy Friday!
Next week, we will start taking math and reading groups! I am so excited to get to know all of the kiddos better as writers and mathematicians! We will also continue diving into our maps unit for social studies. We will have Student Council Elections on Friday. (See e-mail from Mr. Welnetz for more information.)

Reminder

Don't forget... tomorrow is a half-day of school!
Also... these cute toys were left in our classroom at Open House. After trying to figure out who they might belong to by quizzing the kiddos, we are still stumped.
Anyone want to claim them? :)

Lost Teeth!

We could hardly believe it ourselves... but the other day, TWO of our third grade boys lost a tooth within a matter of 5 minutes! It sure was exciting! We are so happy for you both and hope the Tooth Fairy was good to you!

Happy Birthday!!

Happy 9th Birthday to this sweet 3rd grade girly! We hope you had a fantastic day! Thank you for sharing the sweet treats with us.
