Please remember to have your child read for at least 20 minutes each night. I truly don't want this to seem like "work" for your child! I encourage you to make reading simply a part of your nightly routine. Every morning, I check the third grader's planners and reward Dojo points to the kiddos who have their planner signed for reading from the night before.
I also encourage you to have your child practice his or her math facts each night. This should not be a task that takes longer than 5-10 minutes each night. As a general rule of thumb, third graders should be able to do 30 problems of addition or subtraction in 2 1/2 minutes. The expectation for our goal in third grade with multiplication and division is 30 problems in 3 minutes.
Here are some suggestions for math practice at home:
- Moby Fact Master (ipad)
- Math Bingo (ipad)
- Practice our math multiplication and division songs (http://mrsbeaudrysblog1.blogspot.com/p/math-songs.html)
- Check the math websites located on our class (blog http://mrsbeaudrysblog1.blogspot.com/p/math-practice-websites.html)
- Check the math weebly page for ideas and websites (suamicograde3weebly.com)
- Worksheets that are sent home (If your child comes to school with them completed, I will happily grade them and reward your child with 5 dojo points.)
If ever your child reaches a point of frustration with reading or math, please do not push them any further. Homework should always be a review. Please also know that I believe family time is important. I completely understand that there are busy nights! I will never punish your child for not having his or her homework completed. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
