If I had $100...

I had the 2nd graders do a fun little writing prompt on the 100th day of school. It was so fun to see what they think they can all buy with $100! Here are a few examples... enjoy!

Updates and Reminders :)

With all of the snow days and changes in schedules, I want to give you all a quick update.

Tomorrow, February 14th we will still have our Valentine's Day Celebration from 2:15-3:15. The 2nd graders are all welcome to bring valentine's for their friends. Please refer to the letter that was sent home regarding our celebration last week for more details. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me! 

We will also celebrate the 100th day of school tomorrow, February 14th. Please allow your child to dress like he or she is 100 years old. Please see my previous blog post for some ideas or tips to help you dress your child for this fun day. As always, participation is optional, but encouraged. :) 

Can you believe that Parent Teacher conferences are already taking place next week?! Today, I will send home a letter with your child if you are signed up. If you do not receive a letter but think that you signed up, please let me know. Please have the bottom of this sheet filled out and returned to me as soon as possible. :)

Timelines for our social studies unit are due this Friday, February 15th. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please let me know!

Our Scholastic book order is also due this Friday, February 15th. Quite a few orders have been made this month already... I'm so happy to see that! As a mom myself, I truly believe Scholastic books provide the best value for building home "libraries." :) 

Our next Field Trip has officially been booked! We will be going to Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary on Friday, May 10th. More information will be coming to you soon. If you are interested in chaperoning this field trip, we would love to have you! Please let me know. 

Valentine's Day Celebration

Here is a copy of the letter regarding our Valentine's Day Celebration that went home last week. We sure do have a lot to look forward to in our classroom! Here are a few reminders:

Tuesday, February 12th: The 100th Day of school! The whole school is invited to dress like you're 100! Think sweaters, tucked in plaid shirts, glasses, loafers, rollers in your hair... the possibilities are endless! Check out Pinterest or other sites for tips if you need help. Tuesday, February 12th: Please bring in boxes for our valentine mailboxes. For more information on this, please see the Valentine letter that went home. 

Thursday, February 14th: Valentine's Day! We will be passing out valentines in class on this day. If you need help getting supplies, I would be happy to provide you with construction paper. Please let me know. We will also have our Valentine's Day Celebration! Please join us. We will have our celebration from 2:15-3:15 in the afternoon. 

*If possible, please have your child wear red, white and/or pink to school on this day! :) 

Monday, February 18th and Thursday, February 21st: Parent Teacher Conferences. I am looking forward to meeting with all of you regarding your child's progress!

Science

We have been busy learning quite a bit in Science lately! The 2nd graders wrapped up their unit on sound by creating and bringing in home made instruments. Their instruments needed to demonstrate their knowledge of pitch and also volume. They did a fantastic job!

The 2nd graders also learned about magnetic properties.  They learned about how opposite magnetic poles attract and how the same sides repel. They had fun being able to perform hands on experiments.
