Happy Summer Birthday!

Yesterday, we celebrated this sweet girl's summer birthday! Her actual birthday is August 8th, so we wanted to make sure we carved out some special time to celebrate her during the school year. We hope you had fun! We enjoyed your yummy rope candy! :)

Field Trip to Maribel Caves

Our field trip to Maribel Caves (https://www.maribelcaves.com/was this past Tuesday. We had SO much fun learning and exploring. A big thank you goes out to all of the parents that volunteered to chaperone this field trip. Your help was appreciated more than you know!

We started the field trip with our tour guide telling us all about a hotel next to their property that was very old... and had seen better days. The kiddos liked hearing about this piece of history.

Up next, we split into two groups. One group got to explore a cave while the other group got to sample spring water. (It was during this experience that I'm sure the parents and kiddos realized just how much of a worry rat I can be. Ha! I'm sure I got a few gray hairs watching the kiddos drink from that spring. :))

After sampling the water, the groups switched. My group got to go inside our first cave,
 "New Hope Cave."

While waiting, Chloe found a a little leaf shaped like a heart. Awe. :)

Some of the cave passages were smaller than others. I enjoyed watching a good portion of the kiddos gear up all of their bravery and try to attempt this small one that was flooded with water on the floor. :)

The second cave that the kiddos got to explore was "Pancake Cave." The hike up to this cave was a steep wall of rocks that we needed to climb.

Our third cave was "Coopers Cave."  This cave is located in the escarpment ridge that runs the length of the park. The cave has a little trail towards it, but also more rocks and a little stream as well.

I was SO excited to snatch a tiny little smile from this kiddo!! Ha!

The last cave we visited was "Tartarus Cave." This particular cave has three entries including a tunnel passage that the kiddos got to go through.

Don't forget... our field trip to the caves is TOMORROW! :)
A note was sent home last week regarding this field trip. Here is a copy of it for extra reminders:

Field Trip to Cherney Maribel Caves County Park
Tuesday, May 23, 2017

3rd Grade Families,

Our field trip to the Maribel Caves is coming up next Tuesday, May 23rd. Here are a few things we would like to share with you about this trip.

  • Much of this field trip is a walking tour of the park. We recommend having your child wear comfortable walking shoes.
  • Bring a water bottle, with your child’s name on it, as they do not have access to clean drinking water.
  • Bring a flashlight.
  • Bring a clean change of clothing and a shopping bag to put dirty clothing in as students might get muddy when crawling through caves.
  • All of the above items can be put inside your child’s backpack.  Please leave ipads at home for the day.
  • Bring a bag lunch unless your child ordered a school lunch.
  • All chaperones who signed up will need to follow the bus or meet us there. We will plan on arriving around 9:45 am.
  • Apply bug spray and sunscreen prior to coming to school.
  • If the forecast says light showers, we will still go on the trip. If there is thunder and/or lightning, we will need to cancel.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. We are looking forward to a great trip!
