We sure have been busy in 2nd grade lately! Here a few updates and a few reminders:
*In math, the kiddos are doing a great job with measurement. They have learned about centimeters, inches, feet and yards. They have had opportunities to measure various objects around our classroom. We have also been learning about the differences between these different measurement tools. The kiddos have noticed that it takes fewer inches to measure an object than centimeters, for example. They have also learned that the smaller the measurement, the more accurate it will be. As we continue to focus on different things in math, please don’t forget to practice addition and subtraction facts at home with your child!
*In Social Studies, we have been studying important people in history. The 2nd graders have learned about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Ruby Bridges and Martin Luther King. They have also learned a little about Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks and Susan B. Anthony. The 2nd graders have chosen a person that they want to learn more about and have started to study that person. More information regarding this will be coming home soon! :)
*Tomorrow, March 1st, is Dr. Seuss day! Please feel free to allow your child to dress up as a character or in Dr. Seuss colors (red and blue). We will be celebrating with our Paws Pals in the morning and will have exciting Dr. Suess related learning activities throughout the day! Here is a sneak peek for one of their writing assignments tomorrow. Be sure to ask your child about it!
*I will try and upload the rest of the class photos tomorrow at school. My home computer is having some technical difficulties (slow internet and a page that won’t scroll! Yikes!). :)
*I do want you to be aware of the fact that we have had quite a few kiddos with sore throats and runny noses lately. We’ve taken precautions by having extra reminders to wash hands and I’ve also sanitized our desks and work spaces a few extra times this week. It’s definitely that time of year! I sure hope everyone is feeling all better soon!
*If you ordered Scholastic books from our most recent order, I’m anticipating their arrival tomorrow! Please let me know if you would like to pick up your order in the office. Otherwise, I will send them home with your child (hopefully!!) tomorrow. :)
